LEED for Homes

"A LEED-certified home is designed and constructed in accordance with the rigorous guidelines of the LEED for Homes green building certification program. LEED for Homes is a consensus-developed, third party-verified, voluntary rating system which promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes." (www.usgbc.org)
LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Defines residential green building features for single family and multi-family (three stories or less) homes. LEED for Homes 2008 Rating System measures the overall performance of the home in eight categories.
The LEED building materials rating system works by requiring a minimum level of performance through prerequisites and rewarding improved performance in the below categories. The number of points for each certification level is adjusted based on the size of the home:
Certified: 45-49 points
Silver: 60-74 points
Gold: 75-89 points
